KYHS 음악콩쿨은 한국계 청소년을 대상으로 하며, 만 18세 미만이면 전 세계 어디서나 참가 가능합니다. 미국, 한국, 캐나다 등 국가 구분 없이 온라인으로 참가하실 수 있습니다. 단, 실내악(Chamber Music) 부문은 그룹 내 한 명 이상의 멤버가 한국계이면 참가 가능합니다. The KYHS Music Competition is open to students of Korean heritage under the age of 18. Participants from any country, including the United States, Korea, and Canada, may apply online. For the Chamber Music category, a group may enter if at least one member is of Korean heritage.

The KYHS Music Competition is designed to offer Korean heritage students focused access to unique benefits, including more award opportunities, performance at Carnegie Hall, the Gugak Division, and special recognition programs. Students from all backgrounds are welcome to participate in our sister competition, the Veritas International Music Competition.

실내악(Chamber Music) 부문의 경우, 그룹 내 한 명 이상의 멤버가 한국계이면 KYHS에 참가하실 수 있습니다.

Veritas International Music Competition(Veritas IMC)은 어떤 배경이든 상관없이 전 세계 모든 학생에게 열려 있는 국제 음악 콩쿨입니다. 수상자에게는 블록체인으로 검증되는 디지털 수상 인증서가 발급되며, 카네기홀 수상자 음악회에 출연하는 수상자에게는 카네기홀 공연에 대한 블록체인 인증서가 별도로 발급됩니다. 2026년 5월 veritascompetition.org에서 공식 오픈 예정입니다. The Veritas International Music Competition (Veritas IMC) is an international music competition open to students worldwide regardless of background. All winners receive a blockchain-verified digital award certificate, and winners who perform at the Carnegie Hall Winners' Concert additionally receive a separate blockchain-verified Carnegie Hall performance certificate. The primary difference is eligibility: the KYHS Music Competition is open only to students of Korean heritage, while Veritas IMC welcomes students of all backgrounds worldwide. KYHS offers programs rooted in Korean culture, including the Gugak Division and the Story Behind My Music Award, while Veritas IMC provides all winners with a blockchain-verified digital award certificate. In both competitions, winners who perform at the Carnegie Hall Winners' Concert additionally receive a separate blockchain-verified Carnegie Hall performance certificate. The regional title structure within Korea also differs: KYHS awards both province-level titles and a country-level title for Korea, while Veritas IMC awards only a country-level title for Korea. Korean heritage students may enter both competitions with a single performance video, opening the possibility of winning awards in both from the same recording.

자유곡 1곡으로 운영되며, 레퍼토리나 연주 길이에 별도의 제한은 없습니다. 클래식 음악이라면 고전부터 현대 작품까지 모두 가능합니다. 국악 연주자도 연주곡의 제한 사항은 없습니다. Participants perform one piece of their choice, with no restrictions on length or style. Any classical music is welcome, from Baroque to contemporary works. Gugak (Korean traditional music) participants likewise have no restrictions on repertoire.

전 세계 수상자 타이틀뿐만 아니라, 거주 지역에 따라 주별(State) 또는 국가별(Country) 수상자 타이틀이 수여됩니다. 예를 들어 전 세계 1위를 하지 않더라도 "Flute Division III California State 1st Place" 또는 "Piano Division II Jeju, Korea 2nd Place"와 같이 지역 단위 수상 타이틀을 받으실 수 있습니다. 참가자가 없는 지역의 타이틀은 별도로 만들지 않습니다. 또한 같은 부문에 참가자가 적을 경우 1위 없이 2위부터 수여될 수도 있습니다. In addition to global award titles, participants receive state-level or country-level titles based on their region. For example, a participant who does not place globally may still receive a title such as "Flute Division III California State 1st Place" or "Piano Division II Jeju, Korea 2nd Place." Titles are not created for regions with no participants. In divisions with few participants, a 1st Prize may not be awarded — in which case awards begin from 2nd Prize.

Story Behind My Music은 음악과 함께해 온 자신만의 이야기를 나누는 학생들을 기리는 특별 시상 프로그램입니다. 기쁜 이야기든, 아픈 이야기든, 소소한 기억이든, 그 곡이 왜 당신에게 의미 있는지를 들려주세요. 연주 실력과는 별도의 축에서 심사되며, 참가자는 그 곡에 얽힌 이야기를 2–3분 영상 또는 에세이로 제출합니다. (본선 제출 연주 영상을 그대로 활용할 수 있으며, 별도의 추가 연주 영상은 필요하지 않습니다.)

최고상으로 피아니스트 서혜경 특별상이 수여됩니다. 피아니스트 서혜경 선생님은 1980년 콩쿠르 우승 직후의 팔 마비, 2006년의 투병 등 여러 차례 연주를 멈춰야 했던 시련을 음악에 대한 사랑으로 이겨내고 무대로 돌아온 1세대 거장입니다. 한 사람의 음악 뒤에 담긴 이야기를 기리는 Story Behind My Music의 정신을 가장 깊이 보여주는 분이기에, 이 프로그램의 최고상에 선생님의 이름을 담았습니다. 서혜경 특별상 수상자에게는 서혜경 선생님의 서명과 메시지가 담긴 특별 인증서가 수여되며, 그해의 이야기들을 모은 Story Anthology에 대표작으로 수록되는 영예가 주어집니다. 또한 서혜경 특별상 수상자는 이듬해 카네기홀에서 열리는 서혜경 피아니스트의 독주회에 초대됩니다.

Story Behind My Music is a special awards program honoring students who share the personal story behind their music. Joyful or bittersweet, grand or small, tell us why this piece matters to you. Judged on a separate axis from performance, participants submit a 2–3 minute video or written essay reflecting on the story behind the piece. (Your competition performance video already submitted to the main competition serves as your recording; no separate performance video is required.)

Top honors are presented as the Hai-Kyung Suh Award, named for the distinguished pianist. Hai-Kyung Suh is a master of her generation who, sustained by her love of music, returned to the stage after trials that repeatedly forced her to stop performing, including arm paralysis after her 1980 competition victory and a serious illness in 2006. Because her own life embodies the very spirit of Story Behind My Music (the story carried within a person's music), this program's highest honor bears her name. The Hai-Kyung Suh Award recipient receives a special certificate bearing the artist's signature and personal message, and is featured as that year's cornerstone entry in the Story Anthology, a curated collection of the year's honored stories. The recipient is also invited to Hai-Kyung Suh's Carnegie Hall recital held the following year.

Category awards are presented as follows:
